Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Bess Nielsen attended the Kunst Industry School, now called Danish Design School. She spent a year in the Academy for Construction where she mastered the skill of pattern making. Later Bess joined the Stockholm’s design school, called Beckmann for one year before starting her voyage into the real world of design. Bess Nielsen worked in Milan, Italy, and in Portugal and Paris, France where she lives. Concerned with fashion's overproduction problem way before it was part of the conversation, Bess—inspired by a life-changing trip she took to India, decided to create pieces using handwoven textiles with a focus on longevity. With her avant-garde spirit, the Danish-born, Paris-based designer has garnered loyal clients across the world, becoming the go-to for people who find more in simplicity. Therefore in 2005, with the vision “To have its foundation rooted in the tradition of handicraft”, she started Khadi & Co. Finally, Bess found her love for India and started working here and learning from the traditional skills that the country has to offer.
